Instructor: Jim Dixon
Date: May 9, 2008 (half day - morning course)

Course Fee: $350

Venue: ERCB Core Research Centre – Room 35 Section 30/40, #3545 Research Way NW Calgary, T2L 1Y7

Exploration for hydrocarbons in Triassic rocks is at a mature stage and as such more subtle traps need to be found. The objective of this course is to help explorationists understand the regional stratigraphic setting of Triassic rocks and how this can be used in a more local exploration program.

Lithostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy will be presented and shown how the two approaches can affect interpretations of stratal distribution. Although the emphasis is on stratigraphic analysis some sedimentology will be presented.

The course is four hours long and consists of two lectures, some correlation exercises and an examination of several cores that illustrate various facies types and/or significant stratigraphic surfaces.
